Wagner won 325 votes out of 394 votes, winning 82.5 percent of the vote. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame as he won more than 75 percent of the vote.
A total of three people, including Wagner, Ichiro Suzuki, and Sabathia CC, entered the Hall of Fame this time. Suzuki and Sabathia, however, cheered at their first attempt at the Hall of Fame. Ichiro received 99.75 percent of the vote, which was just one vote short of the unanimous vote, while Sabathia received 86.8 percent of the vote, far exceeding 75 percent of the vote required to enter the Hall of Fame.
Wagner's entrance to the Hall of Fame, on the other hand, was dramatic.
Wagner was first named a Hall of Fame candidate in 2016. To become a Hall of Fame candidate, you must play in MLB for more than 10 seasons and five seasons after retirement. If you do not get 75% of the vote, you will be given a chance to try again for 10 years, and candidates with less than 5% of the vote will be excluded from the ballot the following year.
Wagner won more than 30 percent (31.7 percent) of the vote in 2020 after staying in the 10 percent range for the fourth consecutive year. He won 68.1 percent of the vote in 2023. He won 73.8 percent last year, his ninth attempt. He was only five votes short of making it to the Hall of Fame.
If Wagner failed to pass the 75 percent mark in the latest vote, he would have lost his Hall of Fame credentials. However, he made a dramatic name in the final challenge.
Wagner is one of the best left-handed closer ever in MLB history. He made his big league debut with the Houston Astros in 1995 and retired in 2010 after playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Atlanta Braves. Wagner pitched in a total of 853 games during 16 seasons, recording 47 wins, 40 losses, 422 saves and 13 holds with an ERA of 2.31.
